Steps to take when reporting bullying at work
This is an example of what a written complaint should include:
- date and salutation when using memo style
- if the incident did not happen in the office, mention the location
- “Today at x am/pm my work colleague/manager/supervisor called me e.g. ‘delusional’
- I understand that (name the person) is experiencing deadlines and other work related stress. When an unqualified person makes unsubstantiated judgments about my character it is not only unacceptable, it is degrading, and I am feeling worthless and depressed
- Insults like these have happened before on these dates and I have talked to this person without achieving anything
- My work and my work relationships are very important to me and may suffer under these circumstances
- In the interest of a healthy office culture I am requesting training for all staff to prevent this type of behaviour
- With this notice I comply with the requirement of “good faith” in the Employment Act 2000
- Thank you and your name”
