What are some examples of bullying at work?
The examples given here are the examples we have experienced at work. Remember it constitutes bullying when it is unfair, is happening over a period of time and it is causing you harm:
- Unfair treatment at work
- Never a positive comment on your work
- Not given all the information to do your work, therefore setting you up to fail
- Constant moving goalposts
- Accusations of being mentally disturbed
- No credit where credit is due
- Your views are ignored
- Someone else is taking credit for your work
- Sarcasm
- Scapegoating
- Silent treatment
- Belittling remarks
- Constant criticism of work often in front of colleagues
- Unreasonable or inappropriate monitoring (where a manager is getting feedback from colleagues who are competing for similar roles in future).
- Intimidation
- Dirty looks or suggestive glances
- No support from manager
- Disparity of treatment of employees
Tip: Make sure that you can prove that you are the “good person”. Don’t retaliate and don’t gossip.
