What are the causes of bullying?

In our experience people who show bullying behaviour are doing it because they can and because they get away with it.
The person being bullied (the target) often keeps quiet and that is enabling the bully. It is not uncommon for the target to state that they are not interested in office politics and they just like to do their job.
On the website “About Careers,” they state the following: “Bullies target people who pose a threat to them in the workplace. Often the bully target is smart, competent, well-liked and self-assured.”
Bullying behaviour is not uncommon where a number of people are in competition for the same future job(s).
