What happens if you report bullying?

  • Bret L Simmons said on the “question if Human Resources are on your side… if you are a member of management, yes. If you are an employee, don’t count on it.”
  • If the bullying behaviour is coming from a colleague then discuss it with your colleague first before you take the next step.
  • If it is impossible to have this discussion with a colleague, consult with your manager.
  • If your manager is the problem and you have a Human Resources team speak to someone from that team. If there is no Human Resources team, contact us.
  • Show that you have good intentions and that you are playing fair, but make these complaints anyway. Why? Tell your employer solving the problem is in their best interest as the penalty to them when in breach of the Employment Relations Act is $20,000.
  • You don’t know how to proceed? We can help you. Just give us a call.

Tip

  • Whatever the causes, the result can be devastating to your health.
  • Find out from a trusted colleague who has access to the person with the bullying behaviour what is the best way and best time to communicate with this person.
